2.0a - December 7 2003

- Bug fix: The slash key on the numpad (Num /) would show up as an
empty option in the "Global Windows hotkey for Bookmarks Dialog"
combobox in the Settings window on some systems (mostly Win 98/ME).
- The "Refresh List" command (on the Options, View menu) is now
disabled when no bookmarks are defined.
- Fix for minor memory leak in Add/Create Bookmark.
- Some (invalid or virtual) folder names could not be added to the
bookmarks list manually (e.g. GUIDs for virtual folders), this has
been fixed for consistency reasons (you cannot actually do anything
with these folders though).
- Improved Plug-ins list in Settings dialog. Common prefixes are now
ommitted, the type column shows only relevant attributes and the
Description column is a bit wider by default.
- Some minor plug-in API changes for language plug-ins.
- Inactive plug-ins are now listed with a dimmed icon in the plug-ins
list of the Settings dialog.
- Bug fix: Highlighted bookmark bookmarks in the tray icon popup menu
looked different from normal menu items when using (custom) themes
in Windows XP. The appearance now correctly matches that of the
current theme.
- Updated MS Office plug-in: Support for MS Office 95/97 has been
fixed. Plug-in file now includes version information. Office 2003
is now officially supported.
- Several fixes, changes and improvements in the Help file.

* Dirkey 2.0 is a near complete rewrite; only the most important
differences and new features are listed here.
- Dynamic bookmark list instead of fixed bookmarks slots.
- Support for a (virtually) unlimited amount of bookmarks.
- Multiple bookmarks for the same folder are automatically prevented.
- Hotkeys are now freely assignable to any bookmark.
- Bookmarks list can be sorted and filtered in a variety of ways.
- Bookmarks in bookmark list can now be shown without the full path.
- 10 instead of 9 hotkeys can now be assigned to bookmarks (0..9).

v1.3a - June 3 2002

- Fixed bug. If the "Close Select Bookmark dialog on focus change"
option was enabled on Windows 9x/Me then the window/dialog for which
it was invoked would have lost the keyboard focus after the Select
Bookmark dialog was closed. This bug was only present in v1.3 and
did not cause any problems on Windows XP (and most likely Windows
2000).

- The main window is now always hidden on startup, unless the command-
line argument /SHOW is specified.
- Added additional information to About dialog.
- The two options for the position of the Select Bookmark dialog have
been replaced by a single option which enables the dialog to be
always centered in the parent (regardless if it is invoked by mouse
or keystroke) or not. In the latter case the dialog is centered when
invoked with a keystroke and placed near the window close button when
invoked with the mouse (the default behavior for v1.2). Old style
placement of the dialog (on the left-top of the parent) can no longer
be selected.
- The "Explore" command is now also available in the Select Bookmark
dialog. Select it from the bookmark list popup menu or with the
Ctrl+E shortcut.
- Major improvements to help file. It should now be much easier to
understand what Dirkey is about and how to operate the program.
- Updated installer.

* Dirkey Command-line is no longer distributed along with Dirkey.

v1.2 - February 15 2002

- Added keyboard shortcut mnemonics to all popup menu items.
- Added Help command to tray icon popup menu.
- Bookmarked folders are now "collapsed" in the main and Select
Bookmark window just like in the tray icon Explore menu. The last
part of the path is fully shown whenever possible. This behavior can
be disabled with a new option the Settings window.
- The style of the bookmark list in the main window is now the same as
the list in the Select Bookmark window.
- Bookmarks can now be edited directly in the Select Bookmark window
using F2 or "Edit" in the item popup menu.
- The item editor for the main and Select Bookmark window now stretches
to the full width of the list.
- The main window will now also be closed automatically when Explore
Bookmark is selected from the tray icon popup menu (and the option

categories which can be selected by selecting an item in a list. Some
options in the dialog were reworded slightly and the order of items
has changed.
- The Explore tray icon popup menu can now also been shown directly by
Right Clicking the icon while holding down CTRL.
- Fixed minor memory leak.
- Added mouse support for showing the Select Bookmark window. The
Select Bookmark window can be shown by clicking the Close button of
a supported window with the right (default setting) or middle mouse
button. Mouse support can be disabled but is enabled by default. When
invoked with the mouse, the Select Bookmark window is displayed near
the Close button by default but this behavior can be disabled.
- Many internal improvements and changes in the core routines which
result in a higher stability, reduced memory usage and better error
handling.
- The tray icon now changes to an X when an error occurs (e.g. when a
bookmark cannot be set).
* New version of Dirkey Command-line (v1.2):
- The List command (/L) now accepts a bookmark number (1..9) as
second argument. This will display the folder assigned to the
indicated bookmark number.
- Minor performance improvement when going to bookmarked folders.
- Improved behavior on Win9x.

- Pressing the middle mouse button on the tray icon will now directly

- Reduced size of all program files, the total size of the program is
now about 35% less than before (compared to v1.0b).
- Added Windows XP theme support.
- Focus on controls is now hidden on Win 2000/XP until the keyboard is
used to navigate. This matches the default Windows style.

release instead of pressed (common for Windows popup menus).
- The tray icon is now disabled when the Confirm Exit dialog is shown.
- Tray icons now also look good with Large Fonts setting in windows.

- Improved path size limiting of tray icon Explore popup menu. The
width of the menu now never exceeds a certain size, even if the path
consist only of one very long component.
- The actual availability of a bookmarked folder is now first checked
before it is opened in Explorer.
- Leading spaces, tabs and invalid characters are now automatically
removed when entering a path manually or when pasting from the
Windows clipboard.
- Fixed minor bug in valid path checking routine.
- Improved installer. Better error handling and Window XP theme
support.
- Fixed various focus problems with main window.
- Tray icon improvements. The tray icon size is now updated directly
when switching between Normal and Large Fonts in Windows. The tray
icon is restored automatically when explorer is restarted (e.g. after
a crash).
- Fixed a bug that was present since v0.85: If the Select Bookmark
window was invoked when any Dirkey dialog was open (About, Settings,
Browse for Folder) then the main window would stay disabled when this
dialog was closed. The main window would only be enabled again when
the Select Bookmark window was closed.
- Setting bookmarks in Windows Explorer is supported on Windows 95 when
Internet Explorer 4+ is not installed. This was true with previous
versions, but it was until now undocumented. The SET button in the
Select Bookmark dialog is now no longer hidden in Explorer when
running Win95 without IE4+.
- Improved Help.
* New version of Dirkey Command-line (v1.1):
- Added option to clear All bookmarks by selecting 'A' in the Select
Bookmark pick list or by using the "/C A" command.
- Added new command: Explore (/E). This command opens the specified
bookmark in a new Explorer window.
- Fixed memory leak in go to folder routine.
- Improved valid path checking.
- A single rather than a double empty line now follows the output of
the program on the command line on Windows NT.
v1.0b - November 11 2001

- Fixed bug in Select Bookmark popup window. The window close button
and Windows shortcut Alt+F4 didn't work.
- Fixed bug in select bookmark popup window. The Go To button wasn't
updated correctly when the selected bookmark changed.
- Fixed bug in explore bookmark. When a folder name matched the name of
an executable in the parent folder then the program would try to
explore the executable rather than the folder (which would always
fail), thus making it impossible to explore the folder using Dirkey.
- Fixed general bug. The Dirkey shortcut keys wouldn't work in an
Open/Save file dialog when the current folder was the Windows Fonts
system folder.

- The program now checks if a directory really exists before
attempting to go to it.
- Relative paths are now indicated as an "invalid path" when set as
bookmark (not supported by Dirkey).
- Program title is no longer shown with List command (/L).
- New command: /C, this command clears a bookmark.
- G, S and C commands can now be used without a bookmark number as
second parameter, in that case a list is shown from which the user
can pick the bookmark number to go to or set.
- Commands can now also be preceded by a "-" (-L is the same as /L).
- Reduced number of possible error messages and changed text.

- Fixed bug in "Define Bookmark". The program would sometimes crash on
Windows 2000 after closing the Browse For Folder dialog.
- CTRL+0 will now show a child popup window within the current Explorer
or Open/Save Dialog that allows the selection or setting of a

in the Settings dialog.

- Added Go To bookmarked folder support for common "Browse For Folder"
dialogs.
- The folder for a bookmark can now be defined by selecting it from a
"Browse for Folder" dialog. This can be selected from the bookmark
item popup menu or by using the new shortcut CTRL+D in the Dirkey
main window.
- Path names in the Explore menu of tray menu are now shortened so
that the menu doesn't become too wide when displaying very long
paths. This setting can be disabled with a new option in the Settings
dialog.
- The main Dirkey window is now centered on screen when shown for the
first time.
- Fixed bug: The old (pre 0.45) way of going to a bookmarked folder in
an Open/Save Dialog box was used on Windows 2000 in v0.70. This has
been fixed, the program will now behave in those dialogs on Win2000
as it did in v0.52.

- Reinstated WinNT4 Open/Save dialog Go To bookmark support.
- New installation program, courtesy of Nullsoft. A change in Dirkey
now allows the uninstall program to shutdown Dirkey (so it is now
possible to uninstall the program without shutting down Dirkey
manually first).
- Fixed bug: In some occasions it would take an extreme long time
to display the Settings Dialog on Win9x/ME.
- Fixed bug: Popup menu of tray icon wouldn't disappear when the user
wanted to 'cancel' it by clicking on e.g. the taskbar or desktop.

main window without the need of having the focus on the bookmark

- Keyboard focus is now set on bookmark list after returning from
Settings, About and Exit Confirmation dialogs.
- Redesigned tray icon popup menu. Also added new sub menu: "Explore".
The items in this submenu will display the bookmarks, clicking them
will open a new Explorer window.
- Items in tray popup menu can now also be selected with the Right
mouse button.
- Unused bookmarks positions now have a dimmed icon in the list.
- There is now always a selected item in the list, clicking outside
the items region does no longer deselect the last selected item.
- Current shortcut key setting is ignored for selecting bookmarks in
the list, both the numeric keypad and normal 1-9 keys can be used at
any time.
- Redesigned Settings dialog. The key setting does the exact opposite
as before, checking it will Enable the numeric keypad keys. The
default setting is now "normal keys" (option disabled).
